Litter Picking Event! Everyone like collecting rubbish, don’t they?
On the 13th and 14th of June a group of volunteers will be visiting the Polygon area and ‘litter picking’. This is part of the Concrete Conservation project which is being run by the Southampton Sustainability Forum (SSF) and supported by Solent University and Southampton City Council.
The Polygon is well known as a densely packed area of HMO’s (houses of multiple occupancy) and for its high number of students living in the area. For a number of reasons around this time of year a large quantity of rubbish and bulky waste ends up on the streets making the area a rather unpleasant place to live for all residents and those passing through.
Therefore a group of enthusiastic individuals will be tidying up the area.
There is also the opportunity for residents to either leave on the doorstep or drop off any of the following items to the Central Baptist Church on Devonshire Road on both the above dates on Friday and Saturday between 10am and 3pm where they will be sorted to be re-used and recycled to raise money for charities in Southampton.
We will accept:
• Clothes –any condition
• Duvet covers/sheets/pillow cases/towels –any condition
• Shoes –any condition
• Mobile Phones – any condition
• Tins of food only – to give to the Southampton Basics Bank
Also if you live in Southampton and have any large bulky items such as mattresses or furniture the Council Collection Service will pick these up from you for £25 (up to 10 items).
Call the Action Line 0800 5 19 19 19.
*More volunteers are needed for this litter pick and future litter picking events to help deliver projects on the ground.
If you think you could get involved, or just have a comment or idea about the project, get in touch via this site or contact Claire Townend at the SSF.
